Dandy Classic Track of the Day – The Supremes “Stoned Love”

Stoned Love – The Supremes (New Ways But Love Stays, 1970)

Following the departure of Diana Ross to go solo, the group, The Supremes hardly stood pat, much less called it a day. Recording with producer Frank Wilson the three left went on to record three albums in the span of a year, with “Stoned Love” being the biggest post-Ross hit, reaching #2 on the Billboard Chart. As far as great soul songs this has always been one of my favorites. It’s got a fun, mid-tempo vibe and an irresistable chorus that can’t be denied. One could argue that Ms. Ross’ absence was hardly noticed, if only for a short while.
